ROCKET®
VINYASA YOGA
The Rocket® is a modern style of Yoga created in San Francisco, California, in the '80s by Pattabhi Jois’s long-time student called Larry Schultz. The Rocket® is a modification of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga sequences. Rocket Yoga differs from its root, Ashtanga Yoga, in that students can modify and make their interpretation of the traditional asana. If they get stuck with a pose, they can skip it or find easier ways to practice instead of rigidly sticking to a pattern. It is perhaps a less rigid and more creative way of looking at the Ashtanga method without losing sight of the traditional heritage.
Despite its sugary fame, it is actually a very accessible type of yoga at all levels and this is one of the reasons why Larry designed the practice.
He was known as "The Bad Boy of Ashtanga" since he found benefits in allowing all students to try all the poses of the ashtanga series, even the most advanced ones instead of following the traditional pattern where it is not allowed to practice the asanas of a series until they have completed each pose of the previous series.
Rocket ® has 3 set sequences, Rocket® 1 based on Ashtanga primary series, Rocket® 2 based on Ashtanga intermediate series and Rocket® 3 combining Rocket 1 and 2 sequences.
Although the Rocket® is structured in series, each class is not necessarily the same as the previous one. The practice can be traditional, following the set sequence or creative throughout variations.
The Rocket® is not just handstands, but we are not going to deny Rocketeers love to be upside down.
The Rocket® gives space to improvisation and creation, making it mouldable and accessible to all practitioners and their needs.
I didn’t get the chance to meet Larry Schultz in person, but his vision was passed to me by David Kyle, my teacher. David Kyle was a long-time Larry’s student and he is spreading the Rocket love all over the world.
This sequence brought me the freedom to explore and be more authentic with the Ashtanga Vinyasa methodology.
TATTVA
MANDALA YOGA
Tattva Mandala Yoga is a transformative practice that bridges the dance between the physical and the divine, guiding practitioners to embody balance, presence, and connection. Inspired by the ancient wisdom of the Tattvas, the foundational principles of existence. This method leads you on a journey through the layers of reality, from the tangible to the transcendent.
Rooted in the understanding of the 25 Tattvas, this practice unfolds as a progression through the three bodies of existence:
Physical = Sthula Sharira: Anchored in the earth, this body engages with the tangible world through grounded movement and stability.
Subtle = Sukshma Sharira: Connecting with the causal realm, this body explores the flow of energy, emotions, and sensations.
Causal = Karana Sharira: Touching the divine, this body transcends form to align with universal consciousness.
Each class draws on the energies of the five elements = Pancha Mahabhutas:
Earth = Prithvi: Grounding sequences with forward folds, balances, and inversions to cultivate stability and connection.
Water = Apas: Fluid, hip-opening flows to inspire creativity, adaptability, and emotional release.
Fire = Agni: Core-strengthening work, twists, and side-body activation to ignite transformation and inner power.
Air = Vayu: Expansive backbends and subtle movements to bring lightness, openness, and freedom.
Ether = Akasha: Chanting, pranayama, and meditation to access stillness, spaciousness, and the divine essence within.
The mandala-inspired sequences guide practitioners through a 360-degree exploration of movement, symbolizing the infinite cycle of life and the union of all aspects of being. These sequences reflect the rhythms of nature, movement, pulse, stillness, flow, and cycles, offering a practice that mirrors the dynamic balance of the natural world. As you flow, you embody the interplay between the physical and spiritual realms, discovering the sacred essence within every breath and step.
Tattva Mandala Yoga is not just a practice, it is a living philosophy that embraces the elemental dance of existence in your daily life. By aligning your physical body, awakening your subtle energies, and transcending into your astral awareness, you embark on a journey toward wholeness.
Experience the art of balancing movement, mantra, and mindfulness, and awaken to the essence of your true self.
